Notes:
"The History of the Minnesota Church of God Conference"
Elder Simon Peter Matheny was born in Jackson County, Indiana, August 21, 1849, and came to Minnesota in 1860. A little later he took a homestead at Swan Lake, northeast of Darwin. There, through the preaching of Scott and Parson, he was converted and baptized. He was ordained at the first session of the Conference. Brother Matheny was an ideal, all purpose man in the ministry, serving mostly as an evangelist, yet holding a number of pastorates. He died September 24, 1901, at Eden Valley, where he is buried.
