Notes:
Hiram King Matheny
Hiram Matheny was born Dec. 25, 1847 in Queensville, Jennings County, Ind. He came with his family to Minnesota, Oct. 1860 at the age of 13. They crossed the Mississippi River at Prarie du Chien, Wisc. to McGregors Landing. From there they journeyed up to Pleasant Grove, Olmstead County, MN., where they remained until after the Indian outbreak. They then came up into Meeker County. Hiram's father remained there for a time while Hiram and brother Peter took out homestead between Dassel and Kingston. Hiram married Aletha Z. Smith at Swan Lake which is close to Dassel, on April 4, 1871. Part of the Matheny family moved to Ottawa, MN in 177 where they lived until 1882. Hiram and his father had a blacksmith shop. Hiram and his family returned to Eden Valley in 1883. He farmed 40 acres 3-1/2 miles north of Eden Valley close to the shores of Eden Lake. This is where they remained to raise the rest of their family.
