Ralph Douglas Matheny, 93, of Blackduck, MN died Saturday, December 11, 2004 at Northern Pines Good Samaritan Center in Blackduck, Minnesota.

He was born October 9, 1911 in Taylor Township to Clifford Alton and Rachel Alzora (Olmstead) Matheny.  He attended the White Pine one room school, and worked with various threshing crews and jobs in his youth.  He married Marjorie Mae Paul on July 21, 1945 in St. Paul, MN.  They lived in Blackduck and he worked for the Blackduck Co-op until 1950.  They then moved to St. Paul and he began working for the State of Minnesota as a grain inspector.  He was transferred to Willmar and they moved there in 1953.  He retired from the State of Minnesota in 1975, and they returned to the Blackduck area living near Funkley.  He then worked as a courier for Blackduck State Bank.  He eventually moved to the Blackduck Apartments, and then to the Kelliher Apartments, and most recently he was a resident of the Northern Pines Good Samaritan Center in Blackduck.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and had worked as their custodian while residing in Willmar.  He was a member of the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church after retiring in 1975.

He enjoyed time spent with family and friends, caring for others, whittling toys and animal figures, and eating apple pie.

He is survived by his son, Kelly Douglas (Elizabeth) Matheny of Kelliher, MN;  Two daughters, Vicki Lynn (Mike) Miller of Shakopee, MN and Lisbee Ann (David) Thunstedt of Alden, MN;  a sister Clarise Jensen of Blackduck;  several grandchildren, great grandchildren, neices and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie on April 26, 1996;  four brothers, Ronald, Keith, Kenneth, and Bruce Matheny;  and three sisters, Lois Lindsey, Veda Swarthout, and Vera Brownlee.
